Super Saturday for Al Maher

Aquis stalwart Al Maher sired 5 individual winners in Australia last week, highlighted by an inter-state metropolitan treble on Saturday.

4YO mare Rat With Goldtooth, trained by Paul Preusker, was given a plum ride by Justin Potter to win at Morphettville by an impressive 3 lengths. The daughter of Mikumi, by Grass Wonder, has now won three of her ten starts to-date, and has placed in a further five starts, to bring her earnings just shy of $80,000.

At the Gold Coast another daughter of Al Maher, the 3YO filly Alma Bubbles, made headlines when breaking her maiden by an astonishing 7.5 lengths. The Chris Anderson-trained filly had shown some solid form in previous runs and it all came together on Saturday for the progressive filly out of Bella Heart (Show A Heart).

Al Maher’s super Saturday was capped off by the Ken Keys-trained Al Passem running out a determined winner of the $120,000 Keno Replay Handicap at Caulfield. The 3YO filly out of Ruby Bre, by Rubiton, showed plenty of grit and determination when holding off the fast-finishing Street Sheik to win by a nose, having lead from start to finish. It was a memorable day for Keys who, having trained his first winner in 1989, recorded his first Melbourne-double on Saturday.

A three-quarter brother in blood to Redoute’s Choice, proven Group One sire Al Maher must surely be the best value stallion in the Hunter Valley this spring, where he stands at a fee of $9,900.
