Aquis Farm are in the business of developing stallions of the future and exciting two year-old Not a Single Doubt colt Dubious is an exciting work in progress with the a dominant win in the Gr.2 BRC Champagne Classic at Doomben on Saturday boosting his earnings in excess of $1million.

Quick to come to hand, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained colt won the Gr.3 ATC Breeders Plate on debut in the spring and has competed against the best juveniles ever since.

Second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and third in the Gr.2 ATC Todman Stakes, his only unplaced run was on the heavy track in the Golden Slipper.

Freshened after that outing, Dubious was fit and ready to fire on Saturday and scored an easy length and a quarter win in the Champagne Classic over 1200 metres with James McDonald in the saddle.

“I was willing to roll the dice and run Dubious in races like the BRC Sires (over 1400m) and the JJ Atkins (over 1600m), but I wanted to check with James first,” Ciaron Maher said.

“He is a big horse who likes racing. I know he has been racing for a while but we came for the winter because it is a long time between the autumn and the spring.”

A $350,000 Magic Millions purchase for Aquis Farm /Ciaron Maher Bloodstock P/L from the Kitchwin Hills draft, Dubious runs for an all women syndicate that includes Aquis Farm’s Mrs Fung.

He is the first foal of Suspicieuse (Fr), a stakes-placed half-sister by Elusive City to Group Three winner Sediciosa.
