More than 300 of Australia’s best showjumpers will gather on Queensland’s Gold Coast over the next week to compete for more than $340,000 in prize money at the third annual Aquis Champions Tour.
The elite equestrian sport will be on display at Canungra’s Elysian Fields, Gold Coast’s premier polo and showjumping facility.
With nine days of competition over 10 days it is one of the biggest show jumping events in the country. The program culminates with the $125,000 Gold Tour Final on Sunday (May 6).
The free event is open to the public with spectator’s welcome to come and watch all the events.
Competition manager Michelle McMahon said a host of international and domestic competitors would feature at the prestigious event.
“Competitors from Japan and New Zealand, plus competitors from all Australian states have begun competing and bringing some spectacular jumping. With around 1,000 horses and riders having signed up, the competition will tougher than ever,” Ms McMahon said.
“It is world class show and something we don’t often see here in Australia, so we’re excited to be bringing this award-winning event into 2018.”
The nine-day program is free for visitors to attend with a range of events and entertainment, including trade stalls with brands including Greg Grant Saddlery, Fiber Fresh, Trailrace, Hawkesbury River Saddlery, Kingsland, and R.M. Williams plus food villages.
The facility, which has previously hosted a concert by Elton John, is the home of the biggest prize money show jumping competitions ever held in Queensland and the location for the highest level of polo tournaments ever played in Queensland. It spreads over almost 500 acres of prime pristine rural land at Canungra on the Gold Coast hinterland.
Th event will run until May 6.
