Aquis got the new racing season off to a winning start on August 1st when Ancient Aztec opened his account at Ipswich in the Aquis colours.

Prepared at the Gold Coast by Toby Edmonds, Ancient Aztec was fifth on debut to our star filly Sunlight on December 23rd before being spelled and gelded.

Third at his first run back to impressive I Am Invincible filly Asharani at Ipswich last month Ancient Aztec franked that good form when scoring by a half neck in the three year-old maiden over 1200 metres as favourite.

A $130,000 Magic Millions Book Two purchase for Aquis Farm/Blue Sky Bloodstock from the Newhaven Park draft, Ancient Aztec is the most expensive yearling by quite a margin for Albrecht.

He was a successful pinhook having first been sold as a weanling for $16,000 at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale by Riverslea Farm.

Ancient Aztec is a half-brother to this year’s Champion Hong Kong Sprinter Ivictory and is the second winner for Inca Lagoon, an unraced Hussonet daughter of Stakes winner Tyrolean.

The Aquis racing division has had a great few months and we closed out the 2017-18 season with 92 wins worldwide. Highlights of the past calendar racing year for Aquis and partners include having 8 individual Stakes winners for the season, headed by the Group Two winning 2YOs Lean Mean Machine and Sunlight, who was 3rd in the Group One Golden Slipper.
