More than 400 people, including some of Hong Kong’s biggest celebrities and racing personalities, gathered at the Happy Valley Clubhouse tonight to celebrate the recent Group 1 $2 million Victoria Derby success of Australian Thoroughbred racing and breeding operation Aquis Farm.
The event, hosted by the founder and owner of Aquis Farm, Hong Kong businessman Mr Tony Fung, was a colourful presentation of Aquis’ many wins on racetracks around Australia.
This year that success culminated in the win of Aquis owned colt Extra Brut in Australia’s most revered race for three-year-old horses – the Victoria Derby staged during the world-renowned Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
“We are very proud to bring the Victoria Derby trophy home to Hong Kong and share in this very important win with our many friends in life, business and racing,” said Mr Fung.
“Winning is something to savour and celebrate and tonight we paused to enjoy the moment and also reflect on how far Aquis Farm has come in a short time since its inception in Australia.”
“I am so proud of our horses and the team of passionate and dedicated people that have brought us to this very strong position in global racing,” he said.
The Victoria Derby was not the only major race victory that was cause for celebration at tonight’s event. The recent Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes win of Sunlight, a filly owned by Mrs Loretta Fung, was also toasted.
So far this calendar year Aquis has won more 100 races around Australia and is already tracking towards its most successful racing season yet with over 50 winners.
This tally is more than half the total number of winners for the entire 2017/2018 Australian racing season.Special guests in attendance at tonight’s cocktail party included leading Hong Kong trainers Tony Cruz and Tony Millard, well known Hong Kong performer Alan Tam and Aquis Farm CEO Shane McGrath.
