A victorious Saturday for Aquis Farm and Steven O’Dea at Royal Randwick with half-brothers Sesar and Doubt Defying.
Doubt Defying was the first win for the duo early in the day, with a convincing win in the Celebrations Handicap.
Steven O’Dea then made it two winners for two runners and the first Sydney Metropolitan double for the trainers’ partnership with Aquis Farm.
Sebring colt Sesar won the Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes in outstanding fashion. Ridden by Jason Collett, he burst through on the rail in the last 200m running away by more than a length.
“He was very strong late, he’s a lovely horse,” Collett said.
A $160,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Southern Cross draft for Jamie Walter’s Proven Thoroughbreds and Steve O’Dea Racing, he runs for a syndicate that also includes Aquis Farm.
“He showed so much ability last preparation so it’s great to see him come back and do what he’s done today,” O’Dea said.
“He’ll be even better over further.”
Sesar has the overall record of two wins and a second from six starts with prize money topping $300,000 and was fourth in the Group I BRC JJ Atkins Stakes last season to The Autumn Sun beaten just two lengths.
The half brothers are out of Sarthemare and look strong for the upcoming spring carnival.
