400 Not Out

With no more than 10 foals left to be born for the season, Aquis celebrated a milestone over the weekend when our 400th foal of the season arrived.

Foaled at our Hunter Valley property, the filly by Gr.1-winning, Champion 2YO Colt Invader is out of the Gr.2-winning, Gr.1 placed Savabeel mare Chintz, a half-sister to the Gr.1 Auckland Cup winner Chenille.

The fourth foal from the mare, the current two-year-old is the promising New Zealand based Not An Option. A winner on debut over 800m in mid-September, the Raffles Racing, R A Ferguson, Haunui Farm LP, M L Watson, N Greenhalgh, Waikato Stud Ltd and B & L Waldron-raced son of Not A Single Doubt was bred by Aquis and sold through the draft of Curraghmore Stud at the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock yearling sale. Unbeaten in races and barrier trials, the colt performed extremely well in a recent trial, having trainer Tony Pike indicate that the colt could next step out at stakes level.

“I was really happy with his trial,” Pike said. “He has become a very relaxed colt, which is good to see going forward.”

“He showed a really good turn of foot when he did get clear to win quite comfortably. I was impressed with him.”

The Gr.2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes (1100m) at Trentham on December 7 is a possible target for the colt.

“His short-term goal will be the Eclipse Stakes (Gr.2, 1200m) on New Year’s Day into the Karaka Million (RL, 1200m). It is probably just finding a link run that is best suitable in between.”

The next opportunity to purchase an Aquis bred yearling comes up at the 2020 Magic Millions Yearling Sale where a draft of 25 has been consigned and can be viewed HERE.
